CBCT in Dental Practice: Basic Anatomy and Recognizing Limitations & Effective Communication with Patients as a Psychologically Minded Dentist

Course Highlight:

Abstract:

Topic: Effective Communication with Patients as a Psychologically Minded Dentist

A common emotion frequently encountered in the dental treatment room that often hinders dentists from guiding patients toward appropriate care is fear. This lecture begins by examining the fundamental mechanisms of emotion within the human brain, highlighting how this understanding can enhance clinical practice, particularly in communication with patients. It explores psychological models of fear and anxiety while emphasizing the critical importance of recognizing and addressing the underlying emotional needs of patients to improve communication effectiveness. Practical communication strategies will be presented. Ultimately, the goal of this lecture is to equip dentists with the tools to cultivate patient engagement and trust, resulting in improved clinical outcomes and more positive dental experiences through psychologically informed communication.

Topic: CBCT in Dental Practice: Basic Anatomy and Recognizing Limitations

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) has transformed dental imaging by providing three‑dimensional views of the maxillofacial region, enabling more precise diagnosis and treatment planning. This lecture will provide a practical overview of essential CBCT anatomy and discuss technological limitations in everyday clinical use. We will review key anatomical landmarks and variations as visualized on CBCT, and discuss their relevance to clinical practice. Common image artifacts will be highlighted. Limitations related to image resolution, field of view, radiation dose, and scope of application will also be addressed. The session aims to reinforce safe, evidence‑based use of CBCT and promote basic image interpretation across a range of clinical scenarios.
