Will the marriage of DOM and IOS bring a better life?

Start Date: 2020-06-24
Speaker:
Dr. Eric Leung Siu Fai
Course Highlight: Advantages and disadvantages of IOS, tooth preparation design for CAD/CAM restorations, advantage of DOM, transition from analogue to digital restorations.
The trend of digital workflows in the fabrication of dental prosthesis has become more and more popular. Various designs of intra oral scanners (IOS) have been introduced into the market, the recent advances in the design and technology have greatly improved their performance in different aspects including the ease of use, the speed of capturing, trueness, and precision. Nonetheless, there are some evidences that certain characteristics of tooth preparation would facilitate the capture by light
scanner, hence a more accurate digital impression. However, digital impression is only the first step in the digital workflow of the production process of CAD/ CAM dental prosthesis. As a clinician, the importance of appropriate tooth preparation design for the CAM process and the verification of proper fitting of the restoration intra-orally before cementation cannot be over-emphasized. In the last decade, utilization of the dental operating microscope (DOM) in general dentistry has also been increasing. With the help of the DOM, the creation of appropriate preparation contour and margin as well as fitting verification can be achieved precisely.
In this presentation, an overview of the clinical aspects of various IOSs, the advantages of using the DOM and IOS in natural tooth supported prosthesis, as well as ensuring the quality of indirect restorations will be presented.
