Starting Over After Implant Complications and Implant Loss: From Re-implantation to Autotransplantation

Abstract:

Nowadays, placement of dental implants is considered as a routine procedure when it comes to rehabilitation of partially and fully edentulous patients, and are reported to have high long-term survival and success rates. Nevertheless, when technical and biologic complication occur, these sites often present with peri-implant disease combined with compromised soft- and hard tissues. The operator is often faced with a complex choice about the further treatment modalities. A variety of cases will be shown and discussed from retreatment to other alternatives.

1. Identify different factors which could lead to implant complications and implant loss
2. Analyze the need for further replacement in case of implant loss
3. Describe different alternative strategies
4. Understand that autotransplantation can be a valuable alternative treatment option.
