Advanced periodontal and peri-implant therapy with soft and hard tissue augmentation (Part 1) & (Part 2)

While an important goal of periodontal therapy is to reduce pocket depth in order to prevent further disease progression, the ultimate achievement of periodontal therapy is the regeneration of the lost periodontal tissues.
Part 1 of this 2-part series is mainly focussed on hard tissue regeneration.
The following issues will be discussed:
- Concepts of periodontal tissue regeneration
- Periodontal wound healing
- Concepts of microsurgery
- How to prepare the patient before any form of augmentation
- Proper case selection
- Conventional periodontal flap surgeries versus periodontal regenerative surgeries with biomaterials
- Flap design, e.g. MPPT, SPPT, MIST and M-MIST, and suturing techniques for reconstructive periodontal surgery
- Use of microsurgical techniques and instruments
- Use of different biomaterials
- Post-operative management
Advanced periodontal and peri-implant therapy with soft and hard tissue augmentation (Part 2)
Part 2 is mainly focused on soft tissue enhancement for natural teeth and implant site.
The following issues will be discussed:
- Importance of optimal soft tissue around teeth and implants
- Proper case selection
- Root coverage procedures
- Soft tissue augmentation of edentulous ridge for increase in width of keratinised tissues with free gingival graft (FGG)
- Soft tissue augmentation of bone-grafted site for increase in width of keratinised tissues and sulcus-deepening with free gingival strip graft and biomaterials
- Different surgical techniques for soft tissue augmentation, e.g. MCAT, LCT, and VISTA
- Flap designs and suturing techniques
- Use of different biomaterials
- Post-operative management
